What Is Hypnosis?

A natural state. Every night as we lie down to sleep, our brain waves begin to slow down from the busy mind beta waves to alpha to theta to delta. During hypnosis, our brain waves slow in the same manner and often vacillate from alpha to theta to alpha as relaxation lightens and deepens and lightens again.

And so, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is never mind control or surrender of will. Aristotle once said, “Give me a child until age 7 and I will show you the man.” As a child, the subconscious mind exists in the forefront. This allows a child to be a sponge for learning. However, for some of us, childhood learning may not have always been helpful. As a result, poor coping skills to life’s stressors are easy to identify, return to the surface of understanding, with resultant healing via empowered choice that makes sense.
